Reflection paper on ICT as a Communicative Tool

The presentation on ICT as a Communicative Tool made me have a clear idea of how technology aids communication in education. It has described how technological tools such as emails, chats, blogs, video conferencing and social media can be used to enable teachers and students to interact with each other outside the physical borders of the classroom.

I was able to learn that there are two categories of communicative tools, namely synchronous and asynchronous. Real-time communication (synchronous tools) such as video conferencing and live chat is possible using synchronous tools, and can be helpful when there is a need to discuss something quickly or resolve an urgent issue. Tools such as email and blogs which are asynchronous in nature make it possible to communicate without having to be online together. This leeway is useful to students who take time to think before giving an answer.

The most interesting thing to me was the application of blogs in learning. A blog shall be an online journal in which students and teachers can share ideas, assignments and feedbacks. I visited a few Bhutanese blogs as indicated in the presentation and was inspired a lot. Blogs can help students own their learning, as well as give them the freedom to express themselves in addition to encouraging both writing and reading.

In one activity we were requested to sign up our own blog via Blogger.com. I expect the activity to assist students in the development of digital literacy, encourage discussion, and gain confidence when sharing their ideas. Teachers also find it an excellent method of informally evaluating the students and monitoring their progress with time.

The other aspect which I liked was how these tools overcome the distance of time and space. Google meet and blogs are helpful learning will not be disrupted in case of remote locations or school shutdown (as in the case of the pandemic). This presentation helped me realize the importance of communication in the learning process and how ICT can support it in multiple ways. As a future educator, I am now more confident and motivated to use communicative tools not just for delivering lessons but for building meaningful relationships with my students.

In conclusion, the session highlighted how ICT can create a supportive and connected learning environment by enhancing communication.
